A Maui Marriage Licence is required if you have always pictured a fairytale wedding in this scenic paradise.
How to get a marriage license:
Getting a Maui marriage license is very easy. You will first need to get a copy of the marriage license application form. You can also hire the services of a Maui marriage license agent who can provide you with a copy of the application form. Once you have completed the application form, submit it to your agent along with necessary documents. Some of the essential documents which you need to submit include your proof of age, for which driver’s license, birth certificate, passport or even state ID will suffice. You will also need to pay a Maui wedding license fee amounting to $65, and this will need to be paid in cash.
Once you have provided all the documents along with the application form to your agent, you will receive a Maui marriage license. This grants you permission to conduct a wedding ceremony in Maui. One thing to note is that both parties to the marriage will need to visit the Governor’s office in person to get a marriage license. You can get a marriage license from the Office of Health Status Monitoring. Address: Marriage License Section 1250 punchbowl Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. Phone: (808) 984-8210.
Eligibility criteria:
You do not need to have any US citizenship or a state residency to apply for a Maui marriage license. You also are not required to undergo any blood tests. However, you do need to be at least 18 years old to marry without written parental approval. If underage, you need written consent from parents, legal guardian or your family court. You will need to submit appropriate proof of age at the time of submitting application for marriage license. Cousins are allowed to marry – however the blood relationship cannot be closer than first cousins.
Other licence information:
The marriage performer who will conduct the wedding ceremony needs to be commissioned by the Department of Health, State of Hawaii. You will also need to submit the Maui marriage license to the performer before the ceremony starts. Once the wedding ceremony is completed, the performer, bride, bridegroom and witnesses will need to sign the marriage license form. This then becomes a Maui Wedding Certificate. It is to be noted than a wedding certificate is different from a license. While a license merely grants permission to conduct a wedding ceremony, a wedding certificate establishes that the marriage has been duly performed.
