• If you are religious, consider finding a beautiful historic church in your area. Not only is this a wonderful setting for a marriage, its also easy for friends and family to attend. Many churches have a hall that you can usually rent very cheaply for a reception. You can purchase a cake and have your friends and family bring dishes for the reception. Alcohol can be a major expense, so limit it to a champagne toast for everyone before you cut the cake. I have attended many weddings like this and have always been touched by how memorable and special they were.

• How about something a little out of the ordinary, that you may not think of as a wedding location. Check out your local zoo! Many zoos have a special area for parties and events. The wedding I attended at a zoo was held outdoors in a grassy area surrounded by trees and water, with the reception held under a canopy close by. Everyone had a great time and the unexpected howls of the animals at just the right moments made the mood fun and lighthearted.
